News: England’s Cup Anthem Goes Rogue

With no official World Cup anthem this year, a few artists are trying their hand recording an unofficial song to rally the troops, as it were.

First-up, Robbie Williams and Russell Brand team with Ian Broudie, of The Lightning Seeds, and comedy duo David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, the three original creators of the 1996 World Cup theme ‘Three Lions’ for ‘3 Lions 2010.’ The remake was produced by Trevor Horn and recorded in Abbey Road Studios.

Not to be outdone, Dizzee Rascal, British actor James Corden (creator of comedy Gavin & Stacey) and Simon Cowell have come together to rerecord the Tears for Fears hit, ‘Shout.’ No sound-bites from the song have been released yet but the duo have asked fans to help with the making of the song by adding their voices. Call toll-free within the UK to 0800 0494949 and follow the instructions. The line closes at 11pm on Friday. Supporters can also upload their videos at www.talktalk.co.uk/shoutforengland.
